Thomas Arvid is the nation’s premier painter of wine. Arvid, who is a self-taught artist, astounds viewers with the intricate details of his images and with his mastery of light, depth, and reflection. Art Business News credits him with “launching a major art trend” and points to his oversized still life compositions of wine and the rituals surrounding it. Arvid is perhaps best known for his over-sized paintings of Napa, California wines. He astounds viewers with the intricate details of his images and with his mastery of light, depth, and reflection. The magic of his painting is in his ability to visualize and chronicle an entire scene beyond the frame. There is almost never a straight-on composition or a line that doesn’t run off the edge of the canvas. The images are intentionally cropped to lead the eye outside of the frame and let the mind wonder what else the room holds. As a result, the observer fills in that space with their own memories and their personal connection to the piece is sealed.
Arvid’s works tells the story of living the good life and is expressed by the use of lush color and adroit composition. His paintings have very little in common with traditional still life. In fact, the artist considers himself more of a landscape painter whose subject is the landscape between two people or the terroir of an evening.
Arvid is almost as well known for his philanthropy as for his creativity. His work has generated millions of dollars for charities and he generously donates not only his art, but also his time. As Arvid explains it, “I am incredibly blessed and thrilled that I can give back and make a difference. There is nothing as satisfying in this world as knowing that you have helped someone, inspired someone, or made the world a better place. And while I am happy to donate my art, it is also important to me to be hands-on with my giving.” Mr. Arvid will be appearing at Boca Bacchanal where he will be doing a painting demonstration inside of a pop-up gallery on the evening of Saturday, March 7, 2020 during the Grand Tasting. The gallery will be in the Great Hall which is located at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. Mr. Arvid is also donating a piece of art to the auction which will be on display that evening. The reserve on this artwork is $15,000.00 and bids can be submitted on Bid Pal.
At any given time one can find Arvid work hanging in close to 50 galleries worldwide. His editions continue to sell out and even the retrospective hardback book “Arvid: Redefining the Modern Still Life” is a highly sought-after collector’s item. In addition to being a visual artist, Arvid is also an accomplished musician, a fabulous chef, and dedicated family man. Thomas Arvid was born in Detroit, Michigan.
