Cheers! Boca Bacchanal Toasts Success of Eighth Annual Winefest & Auction

Boca Raton Historical Society Benefits from Tasty Fundraiser

Boca Raton, FL – April 14, 2010 – Perhaps it was the outstanding, international array of chefs and vintners who created superb Vintner Dinners to kick off the festivities. Maybe it was the exciting array of auction lots at The Bacchanal & Auction, or the 27 great local restaurants and 140 wines to sip at the Grand Tasting. But whatever drove the magic, many say it was the best Boca Bacchanal Winefest & Auction in the eight-year history of the event, which is presented by the Boca Raton Historical Society as the organization’s major fund-raiser.

“We were truly pleased this year with the eighth annual Boca Bacchanal, which displayed delicious food and wine, a beautiful ambiance and an enormous amount of enthusiasm at each of our weekend gatherings” said Chairwoman Betsy Fletcher. “From the Friday Vintner Dinners, to the Saturday Bacchanal & Auction and Sunday’s Grand Tasting, each provided a memorable opportunity for guests to enjoy a delightful cultural event while contributing to worthwhile programs that benefit our community.”

Boca Bacchanal is presented annually by the Boca Raton Historical Society as the organization’s major fundraiser. The 1,600 guests who enjoyed the various food and wine offerings presented throughout the weekend sipped, savored, strolled and bid at silent and live auctions.

The committee reported great success, and that funds were raised through donations, ticket sales, a Fund-a-Need call and auction bids in support of the Boca Raton Historical Society and its Historic Preservation and Heritage Education Programs. Highlighting the donors were eight-year patron Bob Campbell, who gave $100,000 to support the renovation of the Boca Raton Historical Society Train Depot, and generous patrons Barbara and Dick Schmidt, who announced that they will match the $22,500 raised during the Train Depot renovation Fund-a-Need call at the live auction.

Festivities began on Friday, March 19, with “sold out” Vintner Dinners held at private estates homes and on a 100’ luxury yacht. Guests delighted in the magnificent venues, which were perfect settings for the talents of the chefs and the distinctive wines poured by the vintners.

On Saturday evening, the weekend’s centerpiece event, The Bacchanal & Auction, was held at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. The Resort’s Executive Chef, Andrew Roenbeck, presided over the reception and multi-course dinner, which was created by the Vintner Dinner chefs and Vintners.

On Sunday, top chefs from 27 area restaurants gathered to stir up a rousing Grand Tasting, a “by the bite” luncheon at the Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park. The event featured more than 140 different wines to complement the specialties of the chefs.
